Indianapolis Colts

Here we are at the second week of the NFL playoffs again, which brings up the same question every year.  Is it better for teams that have clinched first-round byes and playoff seeds to rest their players at the end of the regular season, or play them to keep on a roll going into the playoffs?  Lets look at both sides of the issue.

ned as orange as his shirt.  Simply put, it’s a modern classic.

2) Jim Mora – Indianapolis Colts, 2001 ( video link)

Memorable Quote: “Playoffs?!?”

Background: Mora’s Colts had just lost to the 49ers and their record was a mediocre 4-6.  Mora opened his press conference explaining how poorly his team had performed moments earlier.  Then one reporter made the mistake of asking Mora about Indianapolis’ post-season’s chances.

have been playing playoff quality ball for several weeks.  The bad news is, they must face the Indianapolis Colts in the 1st round.  Norv must be wondering why…why?  This should be a great game, but the Colts are just a much better team.  Dungy, in what could be his last season, won’t settle for a 1st round loss.  Look for the Colts to make a deep run…they are my favorite to win the Super Bowl…but that’s getting too far ahead.  Indianapolis 37, San Diego 29.

Thin-slicing. It is the act cutting through all extraneous information and getting to the key items that characterize something. Malcolm Gladwell wrote an entertaining and informative book on thin-slicing called Blink.

The crystal ball had a mediocre performance this past week, going a mere 2-2.  We’re not sure what happened, but this is not acceptable.  The crystal ball took its lumps on the Cowboys game, but it may have been predicting with its heart rather than its fortune-telling powers?  Either way, that puts the crystal ball at 33-26-1 for the season.  That’s seven games over .500 (.558 to be exact).  Hopefully the crystal ball will perform better in the playoffs!  Let’s take a look back, and review what happened last week.

For anybody who watched the Colts-Browns game and was confused by the call made just before halftime concerning Peyton Manning's fumble at the 1-yard-line: The rule states that, inside two minutes, if

Week 11 was one of the more interesting weeks in the NFL this season. A game ended in a 11-10 score for the first time in NFL history, a game ended in a tie and we also saw 'America's Team' get back on track with their star quarterback at the helm. I'll get to that and more as this week's Fallout report kicks off.......riiiiight now!

Overall Record: 12-12
Last Week's Record: 2-2

1) Houston Texans @ Indianapolis Colts

To me, this is like the Cowboys/Giants game from a couple of weeks ago. No one expected the beat up Cowboys to go into Jersey and defeat the defending Super Bowl Champions. And going into this game hardly anyone thinks the Texans have a shot at beating the Colts. That's because they don't. Their not beating the Colts in Indy. This is a team thats getting healthier each week and a team that is getting hotter as the weeks progress. This should be relatively easy for the Colts as the Texans' season continues to get more disappointing.

Winners - Pittsburgh Steelers

UPSET SPECIAL
4) Indianapolis Colts @ Houston Texans

I bet you don't know who I'm picking with the BIG CAPITAL LETTERS that say UPSET SPECIAL right above the game huh? Anyways on paper, the Colts out-match the Texans in almost every position. From Manning to Schaub to the ruffled Texans defense as of late. Manning and company have only lost 1 TIME to the Texans in the Texans history and that was by a game winning field goal. So the Colts know how to beat the Texans. They have crippled the Texans in the past. Oh and not to mention the Colts are coming off a BYE whereas the Texans lost a close, hard-fought game to rivals Jacksonville in overtime last week. Doesn't look good for Houston. Hasn't looked good for Houston all season (0-3). Will the sun ever come out? Well I have my crystal ball in my hand and IT DOES. The sunshine does shine for the Texans in Week 5! I was stunned myself when I looked into it. I had to look twice to make sure I saw the score right. So therefore I'm taking the Houston Texans. It's their long awaited home opener. I'm hoping my crystal ball isn't malfunctioning or I'll have to take it back to the crypt. But my crystal ball has never been wrong! It's never been used! Until now!

Besides being an exceptional athlete, Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning is totally in on the fact that he can play a very believable dork. He may come across as a simple, laid-back country boy - but this guy is as smart as they come when it means marketing himself. Did you see him host Saturday Night Live? His United Way spoof was absolutely hysterical! Again, I am not an

ad their number earlier in the year and they did it again today! The San Diego Chargers upset the Indianapolis Colts in a 28-24 victory that came down to the wire at the RCA Dome. Shawne Merriman and Antonio Cromartie were key in the defense against Peyton Manning, both making big plays when it really counted. I was truly worried when LaDainian Tomlinson went out of the game and even more pessimistic when Philip Rivers had to be sidelined – but the rest of the team made me a believer! I take back every less than flattering statement I have ever uttered about Norv Turner!  He really is an NFL coach that deserves respect.

e time they wouldn't have made it.

Second comparison and it's more recent and that is the Indianapolis Colts. During their title run in the regular season they had one of the worst defenses around, but when the playoffs came around it was another story. They played well and continue that play into a Super Bowl win. Now I guess in reality defense does win championships in those two cases. Now does it always work out that way. Nope sometimes the best defensive team doesn't always get to the Super Bowl.
