Denver Nuggets

LeBron James makes his only trip to Madison Square Garden tonight.

For the past two seasons there has been plenty of talk about LeBron bolting his hometown of Cleveland for the bright lights of New York City.

In the NBA these days, it seems like there is a stat for everything. We’ve got PER, offensive efficiency ratings, defensive efficiency rating, and so on and so on.

It seems like every team in the league now employs their own stat guru. And while I’m not one to question the use of all these new statistics to evaluate NBA players (I actually kinda like them), I’m old school.

The Good

Ty Lawson

How good was he last night? I predicted the Denver Nuggets to be the third best team in the West this season, and that was assuming that Ty Lawson would play like a rookie point guard.

I'm not a fan of the nuggets but i'm not a hater either. I call it how i see it.. Chauncey Billups has shown how important he is to a team, Detroit imploded the moment he left and the nuggets thrived.. They are all Healthy and can play fast and slow ball and have good defense.. Chris "Birdman" Anderson is a force of the bench as well..

and is something that I believed the day he signed the contract.

The Denver Nuggets as I have watched over the years have never had a motivation to win a championship in their franchise history they are happy to be part of the "also rans" from their ABA days through the McDyess years up into Melo and Chauncey Billups. This is an organization who still lives off the highlights of being the origin of the dunk contest in 1976 of Julius Erving, Mutumbo clutching the ball upon the ground, after defeating a Payton and Kemp, Seattle team in the 93-94 season. Dan Issel is still the franchise's greatest player and second greatest coach behind the continously fallen short Mike D'Antoni before himself, in Doug Moe. Even the hiring of George Karl is just a reminder of what they have achieved in the past. They are an organizational ponzi scheme of hope, dreams and achievement.

We'll see, they got Boston tomorrow, then Cleveland a week after tomorrow.

2. Denver Nuggets
This goes along the same adage that they haven't done anything in the playoffs. Getting rid of Iverson was the best move they could have done, but they've lost to the Lakers twice, lost to Cleveland twice,  split against the Spurs so far, lost to Phoenix twice, lost to Orlando. I don't think they are as good as they appear. Carmelo says he wants to return on the 30th, and I don't think that this team will be able to find a true identity in time for the playoffs. Once again, I recall back to my high school days of playing ball, my freshman and sophomore year teams found an identity quickly and we knew what time of team we were and how we wanted to play. My junior year was terrible, some games we would be a 3-point team, other games we would try to pound the ball inside, some games we played zone, some we played man, we had to deal with injuries, and didn't really know who we were. Our best player came back halfway through the season and really threw us off how we were playing. Who knows how the Nuggets will respond.

 :Sighs:

It seems as if the Lakers are on cloud nine right now. What is LA's MVP guard thinking about. Is he thinking about how they just demolished the Nuggets on Friday? The scoreboard only says that they won by 14, but Carmelo Anthony's FG% exposes the Nuggets. Anthony shot 5-19 including 0-3 from beyond the arc. The Lakers smothered him on defense. They realized that Anthony is Denver's energy. Phil Jackson had this to say about the strategy used:

Well I'm 3/3 in calls so far. I didn't get to watch the game because it came on a Friday night, but I did see the results. I'm not really going to elaborate or comment on the game because that's old news now. What I will speak on is Carmelo cutting those signature cornrows! His hair is crazy nappy! And breaking news about Allen Iverson going to Detroit for Chauncy Billups and Antonio McDyess!!! What is Detroit thinking? It's a good pick-up for the Nuggets who have now become an overnight contender, as it seems to be the theme nowadays.

It’s time for the next movement. I like to call these players those that are right on the cusp of being known but not quite. Their play catches non-hoop heads and non-ballers by surprise. Today I decided I’m giving you the players that are going to have the most effect on their teams the key being that they are not already stars.

On Saturday night, the Phoenix Suns will face the Denver Nuggets outside at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden (home to Pacific Life Open--one of the major events on the men's and women's pro tours) in a pre-season match-up. This is only the second time in NBA's history that a game will be played outdoors. The first being a 1972 preseason game where the Suns defeated the Bucks in San Juan, Puerto Rico at a baseball stadium.

We have been waiting for this moment for months.  No, I’m not talking about the Jason Kidd trade to go through (which it did today).  I am talking to about the second half of the NBA season to begin.  The first three and a half months can be such a drag, and usually are but in the second half, everything picks up.  It is a two-month stretch run to the playoffs.  This is the time when teams like San Antonio and Detroit flip their switch on and look to be playing their best when the playoffs begin.  The flurry of trades that have gone on in the last two or three weeks has just made the second half that much more interesting.  The NBA season is about 20 games too long and it kills ratings but now is the time to jump on the bandwagon.  These next couple months of the regular season and the playoffs are going to be some of the best basketball since the ‘80’s.  The NBA, where exciting happens.
