The NBA league pass is awesome, but nothing beats a good TNT double-header.
Tonight, we get a great TNT double-header.
The night starts off with Cleveland at Miami. I’ve written this before, but LeBron vs. Wade is the best head-to-head matchup to watch in the NBA right now. These guys always bring out the best in each other.

In the NBA these days, it seems like there is a stat for everything. We’ve got PER, offensive efficiency ratings, defensive efficiency rating, and so on and so on.
It seems like every team in the league now employs their own stat guru. And while I’m not one to question the use of all these new statistics to evaluate NBA players (I actually kinda like them), I’m old school.

Happy New Year!
With the new NBA season set to tip off with four games tonight, here are some of the things I’ll be watching for in tonight’s action.
Boston @ Cleveland, 7:30pm
I can’t wait to see LeBron again this season. Last year, coming off the Olympics, you could see that his focus was on improving defensively. Now, without a summer in the spotlight, I’m curious to see if he’s made any improvements to his already unreal game. Is this the year we finally see LeBron use his Karl Malone-like body to beast on people inside?

Braylon Edwards and his posse apparently are rolling Cleveland looking for LeBron and his posse? What is going on here? Braylon Edwards, king of the drop and the one year wonder season, decided that he was ALLEGEDLY going to throw a punch at one of LeBron's friends. And, I want to be honest here, I've made Rocky references my entire life.. but Braylon really can throw a punch like Rocky and even Ivan Drago. Rumor out of Cleveland.. and even around the NFL is that Braylon's hands are made of stone, literally. LeBron's friend basically got lit up with a brick to the face. That had to hurt a little bit.

Cavaliers SF LeBron James, most likely as season MVP will be a handful, even for Pistons SF Tayshaun Prince. PF Antonio McDyess gives the Pistons a slight edge over PF Anderson Varejao. C Zydrunas Ilgauskas has outplayed C Rasheed Wallace this year.

The Cleveland Cavaliers know that Lebron James could leave them soon for money, bright lights, and more opportunities in other avenues such as New York City and other places. Many teams are positioning them for a run at James and other free agents in 2010 and that is why Cleveland not making any trades is kind of interesting. Cleveland was trying to make trades for Shaq and Richard Jefferson, but nothing became of it. It's odd, I have my site at bostoncelticsnews.com, and I have only posted one thing NBA related. Well, how about I make it two?
On MLK night, the Lakers took it the Cavs. If this game didn't showcase why the Lakers are the best team in the league right now, I don't know what does. For the average person who just looks at the NBA as a whole, the Lakers are the team right now. But, as Lee Corso would say, not so fast my friend. Breaking it down, here are my rankings for teams that I think have the best shot at winning the championship.

The Los Angeles Lakers came out of the gates running to start the season, but have struggled of late, and now post a mediocre 18-3 record. After losing 2 of their last six games, skeptics point out that the lack of defense being played by the reigning Western Conference champs is the reason for this stumble. With Boston, Cleveland, and LA all having remarkable starts to the year, it seems as if no other team has a chance to keep up with these three, despite the fact that there are many teams rising this year.

We have been waiting for this moment for months. No, I’m not talking about the Jason Kidd trade to go through (which it did today). I am talking to about the second half of the NBA season to begin. The first three and a half months can be such a drag, and usually are but in the second half, everything picks up. It is a two-month stretch run to the playoffs. This is the time when teams like San Antonio and Detroit flip their switch on and look to be playing their best when the playoffs begin. The flurry of trades that have gone on in the last two or three weeks has just made the second half that much more interesting. The NBA season is about 20 games too long and it kills ratings but now is the time to jump on the bandwagon. These next couple months of the regular season and the playoffs are going to be some of the best basketball since the ‘80’s. The NBA, where exciting happens.

Lebron James the staple of the Cleveland Cavaliers looks like in a couple of years he could be jetting right out of Cleveland. James for the most part has been real patient with the Cleveland Cavilers management about getting some talent around him, but he hasn't seen much. Yes, Cavalier fans you made it to the NBA Championship last year because of Lebron, but one man doesn't carry a team as you found out in the finals.
