Boston Red Sox

3 November 2008

Well I'm 3/3 in calls so far. I didn't get to watch the game because it came on a Friday night, but I did see the results. I'm not really going to elaborate or comment on the game because that's old news now. What I will speak on is Carmelo cutting those signature cornrows! His hair is crazy nappy! And breaking news about Allen Iverson going to Detroit for Chauncy Billups and Antonio McDyess!!! What is Detroit thinking? It's a good pick-up for the Nuggets who have now become an overnight contender, as it seems to be the theme nowadays.

So this is what our forefathers had to go through, huddled around the radio, begging for a visual, tuned in only to the audio portion of the broadcast.  Thank goodness for XM radio and the ever-portable jack and coke.  I stepped outside to listen to the car radio until the network could regain coverage.  Never before had I yearned for the voice of Chip Caray.

The words of the prophets were written on the subway wall.  Or in this case, the Green Monster.  Walking out to leftfield every inning, Jason Bay had to see it.  As did every somber Red Sox fan who visited Fenway over the past two nights.  A constant reminder that their newest nemesis, the Tampa Bay Rays, were two games better than them.

In my current quest to work as little as possible while also attending premier sporting events throughout Florida, I decided to withdraw a small portion of my dwindling bank account and scalp a ticket to the Monday night Red Sox-Rays game.  Despite having lived in Tampa, I had never been to Tropicana Field.  But let’s be honest, prior to this season, there was never really a good reason to go.  Since their inception, the Rays have never finished in anything other than last place in their division.

Hello, my name is Christopher and I'm a Red Sox fan. Which makes what I'm about to say so difficult.

I could not have written this five years ago. In October 2003, we Sox faithful had once again suffered another devastating defeat to our arch-rival and overall evil-doers, the New York Yankees. This time, the blow came from the bat of Aaron Boone in the American League Championship Series. Game Seven, extra innings, another loss to the Yankees, could things get any worse? Numbness ensued. Another crushing loss meant yet another year of ribbing from Yankee fans everywhere who were, and had always been, our daddies. However, five years, two World Series titles and one Ruthian exorcism later, Red Sox fans can put all that behind them and openly talk about the past, for it is now the Yankees who haven't won in ages.

As we continue to grow our community here at BostonRedSoxFanSite.com I've been scouring the net for other Red Sox blogs trying to network a bit.  I recently ran across Boston Red Thoughts ( http://www.bostonredthoughts.com).  If you get a chance, check it out.  I highly recommend it to anyone who loves the Red Sox.

Maybe in all of sports. Now that spring training has started, and opening day nears, a Boston Red Sox fan, who is also a professional journalist who frequently writes about baseball; and a New York Yankees fan have united to create a blog and web site where readers can celebrate, discuss and debate all things Red Sox, Yankees and baseball.

I was hoping to get this up yesterday with the Yankees-Red Sox series fresh in everyone’s mind but I didn’t have the time.  After a few weeks of the baseball season and watching almost every Red Sox and Yankee game I have a few observations on these two teams so far.  You may not agree with them all, this is just what I have noticed this season.

If your going to wait nearly 5 months for opening day, and have to get up at 6am to watch Dice K turn into Nuke LaLoosh, you better win the game. Well, thanks to the Manny/Moss combo, the Boston Red sox eked out a 6-5 win over the Oakland Athletics.

The American League East has been a two horse race for as long as I can remember but I think this year it becomes three-team battle.  The Toronto Blue Jays are as talented as most teams in the league and if they can stay healthy they can definitely contend.  The Rays and Orioles will again bring up the rear of this division but the top should be a fun and wild ride all year long, beginning with the Yankees-Blue Jays to open the season next week.

ay (we'll call it a long lunch break) I haven't even watched more than an inning  of a Boston Red Sox spring training game.  What's wrong with me? Am I sick? Has two World Series Titles in four years spoiled me?  Is it because the Big Schill got hurt and I'll miss seeing his lack of spring training stomach?  Or could it be because Coco Crisp just scooped up a ground ball to his right and when trying to throw it in to second, the ball went about 10 feet straight into the ground? (You know opposing Scouts just dropped their offer of a 50th round pick to 100th round pick for Coco straight up).  The answer is no, no, no and no. The truth of the matter is, for the time being anyway, my usual Fenway fever has been sidetracked by the Gang Green.

Like the rest of Red Sox Nation, I really like what I saw in Jacoby Ellsbury's play last season and think he's the one to roam Fenway's center stage in 2008. But was it enough to turn Coco Crisp into Coco Crust?  I'm not sure about that yet.  Jacoby's a speedster with pretty good defensive skills, a so so arm, and an exciting bat, but did we see enough to anoint him to your everyday center fielder?
