The first weekend of college football is nearly over; we've got the 2nd half of the Colorado vs. Colorado State game and tomorrow features Cincy vs. Rutgers and Miami vs. FSU. I do have some interesting thoughts on the opening weekend.

The Big Ten, which was supposed to be having another down year, had sent its eighth team to the Final Four since 2000. Maybe this conference wasn't as bad as some people thought?

Two Big Ten coaches voted against changing the date, including Illinois head coach Ron Zook. A lightening rod for controversy since he took over Illinois, Zook has consistently landed top recruting classes since he arrived in Champaign 4 years ago. Illinois fans believe Zook has done it by sheer force of personality and hard work.
