The Big East will have at least one team in the Final Four as Pitt and Villanova square off tonight in one of the two Elite Eight games. But for fans of the Big East another step toward basketball dominance will be the UConn/Missouri game.

1) The Big East is a monster. That goes without saying. I like though how the conference, after being ravaged by the ACC for football schools a few years ago, said “they want football. Fine. Overall, this classic Big East match-up lived up to the hyped expectations. The match-up between Thabeet and Harangody was impressive. Thabeet is athletic and long, and he has the ability to consitently block shots and change the shot selections of opponents. Although, he did have issues with Harangody. Harangody is a very experienced and well rounded player; he can take you out of the paint and hit outside shots, and he moves well within the Notre Dame offensive system. He was able to make a couple of key fade-away shots that neutralized Thabeet's ability to block or alter his shot. Harangody was the clear winner of this match-up; he displayed a more complete game than Thabeet. Come tournament time, however, both these teams will be clear contenders to go deep into the third or fourth rounds.

It was a classic Big East meets ACC battle as number two Duke welcomed number twelve Georgetown to Durham, NC on Saturday, January 17th. The traditional basketball powerhouses put on an impressive showing as Cameron rocked and rolled with its usual mix of energy and Cameron Crazy creativity. The match-up of Greg Monroe of Georgetown and Gerald Henderson of Duke was clearly the most highly anticipated match-up of the season, as the freshman phenom was heavily recruited by Coach K. However, Duke's power and experience proved to be too much for the Hoyas as Duke rolled to victory with a final score of 76 to 67.

sget right to it, just a quick preview of the six major conference tournaments(ACC, Big 10, Big 12, Big East, SEC and PAC-10) and my predictions for themall.
SEC- it is a very down year in this conference, which is toobad because after the football season this conference has you expect more. The major story going on during thistournament is whether Florida can do enough to get themselves into the NCAATournament. Tennessee should withthis tourney; they are the best team in the SEC and have dominated all yearlong. I think Kentucky willcontinue to play well and assure themselves the NCAA Tourney bid by getting tothe finals before losing to the Vols. I have Florida winning one game and in the end, probably not doingenough to get into the big dance next week.
