Well, this is my first post at the new website, trying it out to see how I like it.
I've done a semi-thorough job in my profile at describing this blog, but for those that are too lazy to click there, I'll provide some background on the blog here. If you want to find out about me personally, you'll have to go to my profile.
I started this blog more or less because I'm tired of the way that sports talk in Boston works. There are a few places where rational discussion takes place, such as Sons of Sam Horn, but for the most part, sports talk is relegated to the know nothing variety of Mike Adams, the "see who can yell at the callers the loudest" style of WEEI's "The Big Show", or the eminently un-inclusive style of shows like New England Sports Tonight in which the beat writer talks at the viewer for 5 minutes or so.
Now, I won't lie, I listen to and watch those shows often. After all, what's a sports fan to do? But I'm tired of the way that people are talking sports in Boston, and I want to try to contribute to the community in the unique way that blogs allow the average fan such as myself to set the discourse at least in some small way. I don't personally know the players. I'm not a former player. Hell, I never even had Rick Pitino furiously tell me who wasn't walking through the door, like some "vetran" sports writers in the town. Something I do have, though, is a suitable intellect, an education in formal argumentation, and a passion for Boston Sports that will still be burning strongly long after the likes of Michael Felger go back to Wisconsin or Steve Deossie buys season tickets for the Giants.
So, if you love Boston sports too, but feel that there is no place to have intelligent, clear-eyed discussion about it, this is your place. Over the following weeks, I'll be unrolling a series of "feature" style articles which are written to spark interest and discussion, as well as posting general commentary on games. Its not often that I miss a Celtics game, I never miss the Patriots, and I'm even hopping on the B's bandwagon, as disgraceful as that is. So if you want to get in on the ground floor, leave a comment. Either way, though, you can bet that if you come back, you'll be hearing from me a lot more.
