http://lebasketbawl.blogspot.com/2008/02/michael-jordan-his-mistress-blo

Last night we made an initial post about Michael Jordan and the fact that he is suing a former mistress who has been threatening him for quite some time now (Who sues a mistress!). The mistress, Lisa Miceli, has claimed that MJ fathered her child and owes her all kinds of money for child support and who knows what else. Well Jordan did the right thing and consented to a DNA test back in 2005 only to come away clean as not being the father.

You would have figured the saga was over at this point, but think again! The woman ends up being remarkably crazy and has been harassing MJ since the DNA test was passed. She has been spamming him with voicemails and emails that have become more threatening and violent over time. So what else was left for MJ to do? He went to court and decided to sue her!

http://lebasketbawl.blogspot.com/2008/01/spielberg-hooked-on-wii-games.h

I guess our favorite director loves those Wii games!

Spielberg Hooked on Wii Games:

In this interview, game creator Louis Castle dishes about bringing Stephen Spielberg's Wii game to life!

Last week, we talked to Electronic Arts game maker, Louis Castle, known for his work on the Command & Conquer game series, to get more details about the game and Spielberg's vision for BOOM BLOX.

With talk about Steven Spielberg being behind the game, who came up with the idea behind BOOM BLOX?

It's actually Spielberg's concept. He was inspired by his play session with Miyamoto on the Wii and came to us, since we had an agreement to work with him on multiple titles, and said, "I'd really like to make a game that I can play with my kids for the Wii since it's just a fantastic system." So that was the genesis of it all and I was just getting off of sabbatical and Neil [Young] said to me, "Do you want to work with Spielberg on a game?" And I said, "Yeah…sure. Why not?"

http://lebasketbawl.blogspot.com/2008/02/chinese-super-bowl-dudsort-of.h

So the "Chinese Superbowl" went down last night and proved to be a little bit of a flop with below average play from the two marquee Chinese players. It was just another game to most of us but the fact that 200 million viewers tuned in to watch China's biggest stars can only mean bigger things to come for the NBA .

With the NBA invading China, India and Russia you can expect to see some great things as an NBA fan. 200 million viewers is a number that only real Super Bowls would normally see and we hit that number for a regular season basketball game!

On March 16th and 17th ESPN will air a 4 hour commercial free documentary by director Dan Klores exploring the effect of black colleges on basketball. The film was originally slated to be a 20 hour film on the history of basketball but while visiting with coaching legend Ben Jobe, Klores had a revelation and decided on a different idea.
AJC.com:

"I love this film," Klores said, "because I learned a lot. It's something I hope opens up dialogue and gives people a view of the importance of black college basketball that I'm sure they never had."

http://lebasketbawl.blogspot.com/2008/02/heat-quietly-shopping-shaq.html

Are the Miami Heat quietly shopping Shaquille O'Neal before the February 21st trade deadline? Sources have told ESPN that may be the case. Pat Riley seems to be playing this one just a little more sneaky than usual.

''I'm not commenting on rumors and reports anymore, but that's not true,'' said coach Pat Riley on Thursday, refuting an O'Neal trade report for the second time in January.

Shaq is averaging a career-low 14.2 points this season, which ranks second among centers in the conference behind East starting center Dwight Howard. He has missed 12 games because of injury. O'Neal could have been voted in as a tribute to his achievements by the Eastern conference coaches.

http://lebasketbawl.blogspot.com/2008/02/mark-cuban-takes-on-hornets.htm

Mark Cuban of the Dallas Mavericks is opening his mouth about the horrible situation in New Orleans. The Hornets are on the verge of moving for the second time in a decade and Cuban is not happy about it. In fact, he's taking direct aim at New Orleans owner George Shinn. The Hornets need to average over 14000 fans a night through the 2008-09 season or they may be leaving New Orleans.
"Somebody's got to get off their ass and sell tickets," Cuban said earlier this month. "They've got the best record in the Western Conference and they can't get people to come? That's not New Orleans, that's effort. There's enough people. There's enough basketball fans to get 16, 17,000 people to come, even if they're weekend games. So they have bad nights Monday and Tuesday."

Just like his coach, Jamal Crawford has denied yet another New York Knick rumor. Crawford was quoted as saying he "wouldn't mind being traded" and that the situation in New York is not ideal.

"I'm happy where I'm at; I mean, you guys have known me for four years now," Crawford said before Monday night's game against the Clippers.

"I've never said anything like that. I've always remained positive ... that's just me."

Don’t you just love the Oscars? And wouldn’t you be livid if they cancelled them? Well, we answered with an emphatic “YES!” to both of those questions! The NBA season is half over and there have been some amazing storylines up to this point. As the All-Star break approaches, we will all have time to reflect on the first half and start handing out those mid-season awards. Rather than doing another snooze-able “mid-season review” post, we decided to spice it up a little bit with a tribute to awards season and to the 80th Annual Academy Awards!

Your soon-to-be MVP was fined on Monday, but not for anything that happened on the basketball court. LeBron James pleaded no contest to an auto speeding violation Monday and was fined 259 dollars - about as much as the National Basketball Association superstar guard makes in five seconds of play.

The NBA scoring leader was driving 101 mph, 36 miles over the posted speed limit, at 3 a.m. in the morning after the team's arrival by plane from a loss in New Orleans on December 30th. It just so happened to be his 23rd birthday.

Kobe Bryant told reporters the other day, "I have to take my hat off to Dr. [Jerry] Buss and Mitch [Kupchak] for going forward with this."

That is pretty amusing to say the least! Wasn't this the guy that was demanding Andrew Bynum be "shipped" out and that he himself also needed to be traded? I can still clearly hear his depressed little voice on the Stephen A. Smith show when he said he was "done" in L.A. I can also remember the next day when he went on the Dan Patrick show to sort of, slip back away from that initial statement. He slipped so far off that statement that he and the rest of us have almost completely forgotten it!

Shaquille O'Neal will hop on a plane Wednesday and head to Phoenix, AZ to undergo an MRI on his ailing hip. If he passes the tests, the trade will be completed sending Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks to Miami.
The trade represents a dramatic change for the Suns, whose run-and-gun, small-ball style had revolutionized the league in recent seasons. That same style, however, had failed to bring the Suns a championship, and team officials had become increasingly skeptical about their chances of contending without giving

  • Why so many haters on this Shaq deal? The Suns seem to have made some pretty good decisions over time. My guess, is Shaq needed some fresh motivation and he'll surely get that by being back in the West. Poor D-Wade...

The NBA paid McGuirewoods Consulting $330,000 in 2007 to lobby on federal decency guidelines. The NBA also lobbied to preserve the ban on sports gambling and to "strengthen prohibition against Internet gambling."

Online gamblers are barred from collecting earnings on their wins by a law that makes it illegal for U.S. banks and credit-card companies to process payments to online gambling sites. However some in Congress support a proposal that would regulate and tax Internet gambling.

Remember when David Beckham signed with the Los Angeles Galaxy? And remember the buzz and the impact he was supposed to create? One thing is for sure, he created a ton of buzz for MLS, the Galaxy and the ridiculousness that is Hollywood, but the main thing lacking from his arrival was that impact part. An aging Beckham managed to play in a whopping 5 games while racking up 2 assists and a goose egg for goals.

He was supposed to lead this team and bring MLS to the level of football/soccer that we have all been envisioning for so many years! And sure enough, that just didn’t happen in the least bit. We found ourselves waiting in suspense to see if he would actually play each night and then cheer like wildfire if he actually got in the game sometime in the second half. To cut him a little slack we have to remember he had that nagging ankle injury that just seemed to never fully go away. As he struggled to play in most of his 5 matches, the Galaxy continued to flop and wound up missing the MLS playoffs.

After last year's debacle in Las Vegas, the NBA for whatever reason decided to take on New Orleans for the All-Star game. Many players and fans were concerned that New Orleans might now be ready for such an event with Hurricane Katrina still fresh in our hearts and minds.

Las Vegas was a disaster for the league, so this year David Stern wanted to erase those frightening Vegas memories and make a positive statement. He has surely done exactly what he set out to do. This year in New Orleans, the NBA has brought together 2500 people to take part in the rebuilding of this great city.

As a kid growing up watching the NBA All-Star game, one of my favorite things was always to see which shoes would be showcased by the stars that year. Michael Jordan always had a fresh color scheme on his current Air Jordan and Shaq even brought out the cell phone shoe one year.

This year could be one of the best All-Star shoe showcases ever with some very significant shoe lines out. This year marks the release of the Air Jordan 23 and the 100th anniversary of Converse. The biggest hit will obviously be the Jordan's with this possibly being the last year ever for the Air Jordan and with a very limited supply released to the public. Carmelo Anthony will be wearing a special color scheme known as the 'Air Jordan 23 All-Star' that should get all those Air Jordan collectors a little too happy.

I've had some extra time over the last week to really watch a ton of NBA and have enjoyed the hell out of it. As I watched, the more I noticed the ridiculous hairstyles of many of the players in the league. What are these guys thinking? When you have millions of dollars in the bank ( for now anyway), can't you hire a stylist or at least someone to give you some style tips on your hair and clothing?

With that said, it's time to give some of these hairstyles some credit and provide a list of the worst! Horrific corn rows, bad buzzes, weird mullets and balding messes all found their way onto our list. Let's go!

1. Phoenix will take down the West!
When we say ‘take down,’ we just mean that the Phoenix Suns will win the regular season title out west. Remember, this isn’t a playoff prediction post!

They may have one of the toughest second half schedules we’ve ever seen but the Diesel will not let this train derail. Shaq has left us with some great sound bites and plenty of promises which usually mean great things for whatever team he is playing for. A motivated Shaq and the best point guard in the game will run over the rest of the league through the next 29 games. Kobe has a banged up finger, the Spurs will be holding back to get ready for the playoffs, and the Mavericks didn’t get any better even with Jason Kidd coming back to town. Watch out this week; if the Suns can take down the Lakers, Celtics and Pistons expect some great things as well as more sound bites. “The Sun will rise in Phoenix!”

http://lebasketbawl.blogspot.com/2008/02/50-most-influential-european-ba

On February 3rd the Euroleague Basketball Experts Committee (pllllease) named its 50 most influential personalities to European Club Basketball from the last half century. The list means a ton to basketball on the world-wide stage, but most could probably glance at the list, shrug a shoulder, and move on.

Well to those of you that thought about shruggin', here are the names you should know pulled straight from the article to make it easier on you!

How about a few links to start your fun filled week?

    • Kobe hearts Deron Williams.

    • Baron Davis taking time to make some movies. Maybe he should worry about making the playoffs?

    • More Kobe: Give him some props for finally getting that first ejection!

    • Who has Larry Nance's 1967 Camaro?

    • Supposedly, the Portland Trail Blazers had their sites on Jason Kidd until he started demanding trades. That was a little turn-off...

If you have not seen No Country For Old Men then you are completely missing out on life. The movie took down the top Oscar last night for best picture and definitely deserved it. Although I would put There Will Be Blood closely behind it.

Either way, if you've seen No Country you could not have missed the fantastic hair style that Javier Bardem sported! In a tribute to the movie and Ben Wallace's new love for life...

    http://lebasketbawl.blogspot.com/2008/02/10-greatest-college-basketball-

ESPN.com is currently running a list of the 25 greatest college basketball players of all time and it looks like each day they unveil another. Well right now their list is down to #9 which is Larry Bird and some may agree or disagree with that as well as the ridiculous fact that Michael Jordan is #13, but that is an argument for another day.

When I look at this list, I really have nothing to think and that is simply because either I was not around when most of these players played or I was too damn young to watch and actually comprehend their greatness. At a ripe age of 26 (February 17th birthday, same as Michael Jordan! Whoo!) I've seen my fair share of greatness and I don't feel the need to look back to the black and white non-three point shooting days to come up with a solid list.

As I cruised back from the gym tonight around 9:30 p.m., I flipped over to 750 AM to catch the end of the Blazers vs. Lakers game. Sure enough, the game turned out to be a pretty decent one until the final minutes when Nate McMillan was tossed and the young Blazer team fluffed away into the Hollywood night. Kobe was his normal self, dropping 30 points with 11 of them coming in the 4th quarter. The Lakers continue to prove to everyone that the Gasol trade was the most significant before the trade deadline and they are truly the team to beat in the NBA.

    http://lebasketbawl.blogspot.com/2008/02/dialogue-with-nba-playoffs.html

I had a minute to sit down and chat with the NBA today about the upcoming playoff picture. He definitely had some interesting things to say!

Le Basketbawl: So…NBA, how are things?

NBA: Things are fan-doodly-tastic LB thanks for asking!

LB: Things are fan-doo…err, what? How come?

NBA: Well our trade deadline frenzy just went down and the Lakers just got better! Plus, the Celtics are leading a pathetic Eastern Conference and isn’t that all anyone cares about?

    http://lebasketbawl.blogspot.com/2008/02/nba-and-mid-season-de-funk-tifi

The NBA has me in that mid-season funk and I have no idea how I'm supposed to come out of it until playoff time. Since the greatness that was this year's All-Star game I have found it difficult to sit down and watch an entire game or even pay close attention to the players on my ridiculously fabulous fantasy team. Poor me, what am I to do?

I could browse YouTube for some interesting new basketball footage:

      http://lebasketbawl.blogspot.com/2008/02/nba-players-hangin-with-murdere

Indiana Pacers young gun Shawne Williams did not travel, play or practice with the team yesterday due to the fact that a murderer was hanging out at his house and driving a truck registered to him.

Gary Bohannon, 20, was arrested on a Tennessee warrant for murder Wednesday night after he had just left Williams' house. Gary is so elite he even has a flashy nickname: Roosevelt Rollins!

Williams was stopped by police last year while hanging out with Bohannon. Police found a little stash of "the mary jane" in the car and of course, Roosevelt Rollins claimed it was his!
