David Harrison of the Indiana Pacers has received a 5 game suspension for violating the league substance abuse policy or what the NBA calls, it's Anti-Drug program. This could mean a couple of things such as, he took steroids or sampled some dieting supplement which contained speed, but the more likely scenario was that he smoked some of that reefer again!

We can assume that marijuana was the cause for the suspension since the league only hands out 5 game suspensions under its Anti-Drug policy if in fact you are busted for smoking pot for the third time. Ding ding ding! Congratulations Mr. Harrison, you just received a 5 game ban and will lose roughly $105,000!

Most people would probably say, "Who in the hell is David Harrison?" It is a very legit question seeing as he has never really done a thing in the league except get extra playing time after the Ron Artest crowd shelacking a few years ago in Detroit.

Nene (Hilario) has taken an indefinite leave of absence from the Denver Nuggets for an undisclosed medical issue. Another hit in what has been a very rough couple of years for the young forward. Nene, 25, played most of last season after missing the entire 2005-06 season with a major knee injury.

"I'm very upset that I have to put a little delay on being with the team to take care of my health," said Nene. "It is hard to go through when things seem to be going so well. I thank God that he showed me this issue so I can take care of it. I want to get back on the court as soon as possible to help my teammates. My family and I ask that you respect our privacy during this time."

Coaches and players alike feel for Nene and can only hope that we will see him once again in an NBA uniform.

"That was a lie," Thomas said. "That was just a flat out lie - I will never ever, ever quit, ever."

That was Thomas refuting a report from a NY newspaper that claimed he would make a preemptive strike by leaving the bench and returning to his position as Knicks president on a full-time basis. Too bad for the franchise, but we were hoping that one was true!

It just pains me to keep reading ridiculous quote after ridiculous quote from the various NY newspapers who just love to print any dirt they can on ol' Zeke. We've dealt with sexual harassment suits, horrible trades, and multiple episodes with his current team. You just have to assume he has some serious info on James Dolan or he would have been gone a long time ago. Dolan does seem to be inching closer to the eventual beheading of Thomas; we just don't have that specific date yet. I'm just hoping he lets us know soon, so we can plan those parties!

  • Portland loses a tough double OT classic in Toronto. Two buzzer beater 3's to force each overtime by the Blazers, but that just wasn't enough. Let's see how they hang on during this big time road trip!
  • Chicago confirms once again how horrible they are while getting dumped by the Hawks. Noah gets benched again, Joe Johnson goes for 37, and Ben Gordon shoots a horrific 3 for 13...time to make some trades!

On December 30th, Lebron as pulled over at 3 am for doing 101 MPH in a 65 MPH zone! Solid work son! James was asked if he would continue to drive this fast in the future and he said: "I don't know, maybe at times. It's not a big deal to me. You've just got to abide by the rules that's all. I made a mistake and I'll live with it." Maybe at times?!? Oh young one...

LJ made sure we knew that he wasn't drunk and will not be serving any jail time! Cleveland fans, please take a breathe of relief. Lebron really did shrug off this whole situation and can you really blame him? The problem once again with being a global icon, is that you have to answer to anything in your personal life that happens to make headlines.

Andrew Bynum will be out at least 8 weeks with a left knee injury. The injury, a "subluxation," is pretty serious but will not require the young man to undergo surgery. A subluxation is a temporary dislocation of the knee cap; OUCH.

Bynum was in a pretty good mood while leaving Staples Center Sunday night: "I'm not in too much pain, only when I bend it," Bynum said. "I don't think it's serious at all. I can move it left and right. Just to take a step forward is the only thing that really hurts. I never heard a pop."

It was confirmed today that Nene of the Denver Nuggets had a testicular tumor removed yesterday; it is not known if the tumor is cancerous. Rumors and speculation had run rampant since the announcement late last week of Nene's decision to take an indefinite leave from the team.

"I want to thank my fans, my teammates, the Nuggets organization and everyone that's been supporting me," Nene said in a statement released by the team before Tuesday night's game at Atlanta.

On November 18, 2007, Braylon Joshua Robert Howard was born! On December 23rd the Orlando Sentinel posted a birth announcement for the young Howard, except it didn't list the father? That's right! Dwight had a baby and no one knew about it! He even played a game on November 18th, the same day the baby was born and didn't say a word! That crazy boy! The mother, a former Orlando Magic dancer (word!), now lives in Miami, where she also dances and also no longer sees DH. Another athlete making more babies!

Lebron James dropped 51 points tonight; half of the speed he was clocked at the other night! The Cavaliers took on the Memphis Grizzlies tonight in a very competitive game that went into overtime and featured a ton of scoring. The teams combined for 256 points and that included 10 players in double figure scoring.

James almost wrapped up another triple double, falling just 2 rebounds and 1 assist short. This kid just continues to get better while the rest of his team fails to perform. On a night when the Cavaliers totaled 132 points, Lebron was the only player to break 20 points, and still managed to lead the team in assists.

Could you think of a more perfect fit for the triangle offense than Chris Webber? The guy posts well, passes extremely well, and can knock down the 18 footer. He may be a little older than the Lakers want, and who knows what kind of condition he is in, but this is a player the Lakers truely need to look at to fill the empty space forced by Bynum's knee injury.

Webber doesn't even care if he starts; the man just wants to "fit in." Kobe has wanted a running mate, and even though CWebb probably can't run all that much these days, this would be a great opportunity.

Nene, of the Denver Nuggets, posted today on his website that the testicular tumor removed from his body earlier in the week was benign. That post was later removed and it sounds like the information his rep's had was incomplete. George Karl, the coach of the Nuggets, refused to say much about the situation. Karl has had his run-ins with cancer over the last few years and said that he would hold his comments until he has a complete diagnosis.

Marcus Camby, a teammate of Nene, reminded the press that "basketball is secondary" right now and even with the benign tumor, they still expect Nene to be out for quite some time.

The Portland Trail Blazers came into Miami half way through a 7 game east coast road swing and after dropping a tight one to the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night. Critics keep saying this Blazer hot streak will come to an end during this road trip but those youngsters just keep surprising all of them.

Tonight's game was a back and forth affair with Portland leading most of the way; they headed into half-time with a 9 point edge. The 3rd quarter however, belonged to Mr. Dwyane Wade. The guy went off and showed signs of the Wade of old. He put up an impressive 20 points in the quarter and rallied the Heat to a solid lead going into the 4th.

The Miami Heat have hit an all-time low. Seriously. They just lost to the New York Knicks, at home.

In the middle of a 7 game home stand, the Heat have dropped the first 3 games and it looks to just keep getting worse. To finish it out, they host Cleveland, San Antonio, Indiana and then Boston; they will lose all of these. Miami now has the second worse record in the league only ahead of Minnesota who could probably take down them down at this point.

Such a wild day today in the land of college basketball! In what turned out to be a rather boring day in the NBA was made up for with 7 nasty NCAA hoops upsets. Here is a quick breakdown:

  • #1 North Carolina takes one on the home chin; go Terps! 82-80 Maryland.
  • The battle for L.A. goes to those Trojans! #4 UCLA is still #2 in Hollywood. 72-63 USC.
  • #9 Texas A&M, please meet Michael Beasely of Kansas State. 75-54 Kansas State.

Time for your weekly fix of rumors!
  • Looks like Chris Webber won't be a Laker after all. Might be a good idea, but why on earth would they bring in DJ Mbenga?
  • Arenas Update: Looks like GilZero will be back after the All-Star break; he's finally been cleared to start working on that sweet shooting stroke again.
  • "That's who we are," Kidd said after Thursday's practice. "We're the Nets. I can't sit here and explain to you and make something up. That's who we are." That was Kidd after admitting the Nets are not much more that a .500 team.

http://lebasketbawl.blogspot.com/2008/01/pacers-oneal-done-for-year.html

Indiana Pacers forward Jermaine O'Neal is thinking about hanging 'em up for the rest of the year. O'Neal has a badly bruised knee and is looking at taking the rest of the season off to rest and fully recover. The former "star" is already scheduled to miss at least the next 2 weeks. He has had one of the worst years of his career averaging just 15 points and 7 rebounds per game.

The Pacers currently sit just a half game behind the Nets for the final playoff spot in the east. O'Neal has not been much of a presence this year and the Pacers are unlikely to miss him. This will give some more of their young talent a chance to shine.

OJ Mayo just couldn't resist could he? Mayo, a college freshman standout at USC, accepted free NBA tickets to last night's Lakers vs. Nuggets game and may have violated an NCAA rule. The tickets, given to him him by Carmelo Anthony are valued at $230 a piece, were near mid-court and easily over the limit on what a college athlete should be accepting. The only way out of this situation is if the NCAA decides Melo is just a friend, and not representing a professional sports organization.

Joshua Isiah Thomas, the son of Knicks coach Isiah Thomas, was arrested Tuesday morning for underage drinking! It sure is not a good time to be a Thomas. Thomas' son attends the University of Indiana and was allegedly punched in the face at a bar while attempting to order a drink.

We all know the troubles Isiah has found with the Anucha Brown-Sanders trial and now the many issues with the Knicks franchise. I'm going to go out a limb here and guess that he probably didn't need his son to be getting arrested and shouting obscenities at police officers. Like father like son?

Well today, the significant other decides she wants to go shopping at this store because they sell a line of clothing by the Sex and the City most irritating woman on the planet, Sarah Jessica Parker. Tony Parker of the San Antonio Spurs has found himself some bone spurs! He's a Spur with spurs...OK bad joke. His left heal seems to be the issue and was initially not a major worry for Parker and his team, but things have changed.

Does this mean the Spurs are in on the Damon Stoudamire sweepstakes now? My guess is going to be "YES!" Stoudamire has gone through a contractual buyout with the Memphis Grizzlies and is expected to be courted by several teams, now including the Spurs. Boston showed as an early front runner but have slipped down the pole with the Suns, Raptors and now Spurs joining the race.

Tonight turned out to be a nightmare for the ailing San Antonio Spurs. Earlier in the day, coach Greg Popovich decided to bench his All-Star point guard Tony Parker indefinitely while he deals with bone spurs in his left foot. Then the team found its way up I-5 to Seattle to take on a team that had not won in 14 straight games. Well that streak came to an end tonight!

The Seattle Supersonics found a way to win tonight against the reigning NBA Champs. Kevin Durant had his first solid game in quite some time including a late basket to seal the deal for his young Sonics. Seattle desperately needed a win like this to try and salvage some of their season.

For the second time this season a home crowd has cost its team a win against Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Why would you do this to your precious home team? They work their butt off for you and give you a huge lead, and then you go and tick the man off!

The first home crowd loss came when the Cavs traveled to Toronto and two young women sitting courtside decided to get into Mr. James' ear. That statistic however is said to be an educated estimate and some players actually have a hard time believing it. The statistic could be used as a scare tactic, but it is definitely something these players should be paying attention to.

The greatest basketball player of all-time Michael Jordan, has sued a Meadville, PA woman who claims that Jordan fathered her young son. You can think about adding MJ to this list pretty soon!

The woman, Lisa Miceli, has allegedly been sending Michael hundreds of threatening emails and voicemails that have become "increasingly" more violent over time. The woman spam began in August 2005 just after MJ had participated in DNA testing that proved he was not the father to this crazy woman's child!
