NBA Drops $330,000 to Battle Gambling

The NBA paid McGuirewoods Consulting $330,000 in 2007 to lobby on federal decency guidelines. The NBA also lobbied to preserve the ban on sports gambling and to "strengthen prohibition against Internet gambling."

Online gamblers are barred from collecting earnings on their wins by a law that makes it illegal for U.S. banks and credit-card companies to process payments to online gambling sites. However some in Congress support a proposal that would regulate and tax Internet gambling.

The NBA also lobbied on drugs and steroids policy and in support of work visas for foreign players.

Smart moves by the NBA. As we all know from last year's referee fiasco, money put towards stopping gambling is much needed. No more Donaghy! No more Donaghy!
