Boston Celtics, repeat or no?

Both the NBA and the Boston Celtics have been around since 1946. And out of those sixty-two years, the Celtics have been crowned the champions a record-setting 17 times. With their most recent title this year.

Question now is, can they do it again next year?

If you look at the east, there really isn't any team that is going to be able to match-up to the Celtics.

Look at the Detroit Pistons for example. The General Manager Joe Dumars said that he is going to put a new facelift upon his team. Meaning, the Pistons might not be contenders for the next couple of years. During, what looks to become, a rebuilding process. There was rumors of shipping Chauncey Billups and Tayshawn Prince to the Nuggets for Carmelo Anthony. That isn't a move that would help in the near Celtic repeat run.

Lebron and company is about the second best in the east. But even Lebron isn't going to be able to stop the Celtics by himself. It looks like Danny Ferry will never put the players that Lebron needs at his side. Lets just pretend the Cav's go out and get Michael Redd from the Bucks -- who holds records including, most 3-point field goals in a quarter, with eight, which he done against the Houston Rockets in 2002. Also, scored a franchise-record of 57 points in a game -- which has been a trade rumor for months now. That single aquire could make the Cav's a playoff deep-threat contender for the Celtics.

Now for the western conference. There is a lot of potential in the west. But not Celtic potential.

From my view, the Lakers are only a big man away from being the dominant team in the league. Andrew Bynum could be the answer, but not this year. Bynum is coming off a knee injury, that may give him problems even this year to come.

The San Antonio Spurs are old. Old, with a few good pieces. They was lucky to even make it to the western championship last year against the Lakers. Tony Parker is the youngest starter on the team, and even he is 26. So don't count on these guys to win a finals.

Now for the New Orleans Hornets. A very young and skilled team. This team is almost complete. This is the team that was suppose to beat the old Spurs and take on the Lakers in the western championship. But, being as young as they are, they blew it. Expect the same out of the Hornets next year, maybe even winning the west. But don't expect more than that.

So can the Celtics repeat? There is no doubt in my mind that they can't.
