NFL Week 14 Fallout

Another week is in the books in the National Football League as we head to Week 15. But first let's take a look back at the week that was...Week 14! (my tongue is getting twisted) Several surprising outcomes this past Sunday including a few of the games I picked. I went a disappointing 1-3 in my picks. Very poor performance on my part. I'm finally realizing I'll never have a grip on the NFL. It's the most inconsistent professional sport out there. Any team can lose on any given week. But enough sulking, let's get on to this week's Fallout Report!

Week 14 Record: 1-3
Overall Record: 21-19

Texans 24 Packers 21

I honestly did not see this one coming. The score does not illustrate the domination the Texans had over the Green Bay Packers in this one. Houston turned the ball over not once, not twice, not even three times...but four! But they still won the game. That will not happen on most given Sundays. The Packers scored all of their 21 points off Houston turnovers. Matt Schaub returned from injury and played pretty well. He didn't let the frigid temps get to him as he kept his cool. Yahoo! Fantasy sports showed a graphic of Schaub that had the headline above it: "Cool Customer". Can't argue with that headline. Packers played poorly as they fall to a disappointing 5-8.

49ers 24 Jets 14

Didn't see this one coming either! The NFL is crazy! I thought the Jets would have bounced back after getting upset at home to the Denver Broncos. The 49ers had other plans as quarterback Shaun Hill threw for 285 yards stringing 2 scores together. Brett Favre only threw for 137 yards off a 20-31 performance. With the loss, the Patriots win and the Dolphins win in Week 14; the AFC East has a 3-way tie on its hands between those 3 teams all tied at 8-5 apiece.

Steelers 20 Cowboys 13

This had 'must win' all over it for the Dallas Cowboys. Did they deliver? Almost! The Cowboys took a 13-3 lead into the 4th and it looked like Dallas was going to take a hard fought game in the cold. Deshea Townsend had other ideas as he put the final stamp on the Steelers rally as he intercepted Tony Romo and ran it back for a pick six with 1:40 left in the game. A few things went wrong in the play that Townsend picked the ball off. Jason Witten ran the wrong route, but also Romo's throw wasn't terribly accurate. Romo put the blame on himself after the game. Looking ahead the Cowboys next (and last) 3 opponents for the regular season are: the Ravens, Giants, Eagles. It's going to be interesting to see how the pieces fall for 'America's Team'!

Ravens 24 Redskins 10

The only game I got right in my picks (sigh). The Ravens play good at home and Sunday Night was no different. Joe Flacco was not great, but the Ravens got the job done on defense with 3 forced turnovers (2 ints, 1 fum). Ed Reed came up big as he intercepted Jason Campbell early in the game and then stripped running back Clinton Portis (on the Redskins 3rd possession) before picking up the rock and taking it...all...the...way (sorry Chris Berman!) for 6 points. Reed added a second INT with less than 2 minutes remaining in the game to put the final stamp of approval on the win for the Ravens. Baltimore with the win goes to 9-4 and the Redskins with the loss goes to 7-6 after a promising start to the season.
