The Pilot

Good evening ladies and gentleman. I am tonights entertainment (sorry couldn't help referencing Dark Knight.) This is my inaugral blog about our lone Canadian team, the Toronto Raptors.

This will be a live blog. Check back for updates.

Tonights matchup. Raptors vs. Spurs in SA.

-Lucky for us folks tonight that the Raptors return to the Score vs TSN2. By the way you will see me uttering my contempt towards Rogers through out the season.

-Okay so tonights starting lineups: Toronto: Jose Calderon, Jason Kapono, Jamario Moon, Chris Bosh and Jermaine  O'Neal

San Antonio: Tony Parker, Roger Mason Jr. Michael Finley, Tim Duncan and Matt Bonner (Don't laugh at his name!)

- Keys to a Raptors win (this is what I tell the kids that I coach): Play defence. Make your shots. Control the basketball. 3 simple things. We shall see how they do tonight.

-5 game losing streak is awful no? Lets hope that the boys can step it up and pull out a win tonight in one of the toughest places to play.

- Well not a bad start. Let up a 3 on the first play of the game. Raps winning 4-3. For the love of Pete I hope they hold on.

- Typical Raptors start. Their hot right now. Bad thing is, so are the Spurs.

-Its nice to see Kapono playing aggressive tonight. I am sure after last nights loss somebody stepped in and reamed out this team.  Its working so far.

-Wow solid defence. The Spurs are running a basic Flex offense. Usually fairly effective against teams cause its so hard to defend.

-Anyone else notice how Tim positions his feet when he shoots foul shots? His knees look like their about to cave in.

-Wow the Spurs have 6 players over the age of 30. Its only fitting their coach looks like Father Time.

_Oh baby, a nice drive by Bargnani around Duncan. Haven't seen him do that in a long long time.

- I'm scratching my head right now. Parker was on a fast break one on one with Bargnani. And Bargs turns away from him? I am confused.

-Imagine if Tony Parker managed to get a jump shot? The guy would be even scarier. Good sign though, with 2 minutes left in the first the Raptors are winning 21-18. Jay Triano just called a timeout.

-Not a bad start to this game. I can only imagine how it will play out. Raptors hold a 5 point lead going into 2nd. Knock on wood they keep up the pace. So far they have executed my keys to winning.

-Holy moly, Jake Voskhul is in. This should be interesting.

-Jake scores!!! San Antonio does the same with 3. Not the way things should be going.

-I can see this one starting to get tense. The Raptors moto for this year has been something like, bend but don't break. Better hope they don't break like usual as of late.

-Uh oh. Spurs are catching on fire...Go figure its the red head doing it all. I wish Toronto still had him.

-Will should be stuck getting the water for this team. We all know he can't shoot the three. Its like he gets giddy and then the ball taunts him to take a bad shot.

-Things are starting to turn awful, 45-33 Spurs...Under 5 left in the 2nd.

-Raptors have a little fight in them. I like that...Sorry had to quote the movie again. It's just that great.

-Get out the umbrellas it's raining threes.....for the Spurs.

-Raps down 50-41 with 2 minutes to go.

-I always hold my breath when Will Solomon is on. I may turn blue and pass out by the end of the game if he stays on due to Calderon being under the weather.

-Its half time and the Raptors are down 8. Not bad.

-Now for some stats. Raptors are shooting a respectable 46.3% from the field. With 1/5 from beyond the arc. Not very becoming. Bosh seems to have his shot back as he has 11 pts at the half.

The Spurs on the other hand are shooting the lights out. The numbers may say otherwise but...43.8% from the field..and ready for this? 9/23 from 3 point land. That has to change. Their hot shooting could turn this thing into an outright blow out. Tony Parker leads the way for the Spurs with 14 points.

-See ya at the start of the 3rd.

-Back and live with the 2nd half.

-Great to see the Spurs  in the holiday spirit with Carol of the Bells by Trans Siberian Orchestra playing.

-Pray to which ever God or deity you support that the Raptors can grind this one out.

-Not a good time to trade basket for basket.

-I wish Joey Crawford was reffing this game. Hes not afraid to make calls against these Spurs.

-Jermaine looks like hes getting ready to go on a hot streak. He has 12 points which Bosh has 15. Not bad production from the front court.

-Jeez another terrible call. Kapono called for a really cheap call. Somebody should "accidentally" throw the ball at that ref.

-Moon just doesn't get it. Hes not a shooter. If I were Jay I would have an electric collar put on him. Everytime he shoots a 3 he gets a small shock.

-Raptors are storming back. Their down 68-60 with 7 minutes remaining in the 3rd.

-Would ya look at that. Jermaine leaves with an injured shoulder. The Raptors are now down 10 again. Beautiful isn't it?

-Bargnani must have glue on his feet. I hope I am wrong. Bargs is shaping to be a bust.

-And another 3. Thats now 13 3 pointers by the Spurs. Man these guys need Tom Thibodeau.

-Uh oh. Raptors down 11 going into 4th. Stop me if you've heard this before.

-Its nice to see O'Neal back in the game.

-Wow this is awful reffing.

-Why is Bosh not back in? This game is still winnable!

-14 3 pointers for the Spurs. Raptors record for most 3s allowed is 17. That record is in danger of being shattered.

-If the Raptors want to win this they better start to buckle down in this 4th quarter. Down 14 with 9 minutes to go.

-Is it that hard to stop into the guy to cut off the drive? Jeez even the kids I coach know how to do that.

-Gregg Poppovich looks like he could have been a character on Walker Texas Ranger.

-10 point game under 7 to go.

-Jermaine is on fiya. Hes got 20 points.

-Another 3. Jesus thats 15.

-Matt Bonner is for real. I can see why hes the league leader for 3 point shooting this season. Kinda stings to know what he and Roger Mason Jr. have became eh?

-Scratch that, it really stings when you think about the players the Raptors have given away. Camby, McGrady,Carter,Billups,Mason and now Bonner.

-Ladies and germs we have ourselves a game. Raptors down 9 with 5:48 left. Momentum is on their side.

-Timmy really should ve his own instructional video for shooting the bank shot.

-The Spirit looks awful. Personally its not a comic book series that I recall but hey if everyone else can make a movie about a comic book character then why not the Spirit?

-We now sit at 16 made 3 balls for the Spurs.

-Bonner, Finley and Mason each have 4 3 pointers. That hurts.

-2 minute warning. Lets see how this plays out.

-Joey missed an easy layup. Would have cut the lead to 6. Instead Duncan scores and the Raptors are now down 10.

-This ones over. No chance of a come back here. Unless Reggie is in the building and wants to dress for Toronto.

-Yeah its over. Down 12 with 30 seconds left.

-Better effort this time.

-Congrats to the Spurs. They played a great game.

-Toronto as well deserves a tip of the cap. Much better then last nights debacle in OK City.

-Final Score 107-97.

  1. You're a Jazz fan writing a blog for the Toronto Raptors. Do true sports fans even exist anymore? Geez.
