University of Michigan Wolverines Week Two Preview

Ok, so week one was pretty ugly.  But that was expected.  Rich Rodriguez's offense was, lets say, less than inefficient in its first go around. The quarteback play was horrific with both quarterbacks appearing completely lost in their new system but I believe anyone that watched the game would agree that Steven Threet showed more promise at being able to run the offense in the future.  I don't want to trash the quarterbacks to quickly here since its an adjustment period for the whole program.  When Threet and Sheridan gain some confidence in their system and also realize that wide receiver Junior Hemingway is the fucking man things should start to shape up.

I know RichRod was looking forward to showcasing youtube sensation Sam McGuffie but even Rodriguez admitted that "the running game was a huge dissapointment."  I think Rich should have put McGuffie on the backburner for a while and give Brandon Minor his shot to carry the load.  He has proven himself a capable runner in the past and when given the opportunity against Utah he was pretty solid.  I know he isn't the speedy slash runner RichRod likes in his spread offense but Minor will certainly help take some of the pressure off of the young quarterbacks.  Hopefully in the future he will be getting more touches.

As ugly as this game was it could have been much worse.  I thought we were gonna lose by 40 by the time halftime came around.  But the defense really settled down and got good pressure in the second half and Michigan's offense limited its turnovers.  Lets not forget that Utah a good team with plenty of hype around them to go far this year.

So now on to week two against Miami (OH).  Things are looking up.  The Redhawks got smoked by Vanderbilt in their first week and are not going to be anywere close to as complete a football team as the Utes.  The Wolverines should be more than happy to welcome them to the Big House.  The Wolverines wil also have the luxury of putting RB Kevin Grady back onto the field (assuming he doesn't get his stupid ass arrested in the next few days).  So RichRod I beg you jam it down their throats every once in a while on first down with Grady or Minor.  After game one you complained about all your second and long situations and about how you couldn't get the run game going because of that.  We'll this week take it to them early.  I know you want to finesse and dance around in your spread offense but you don't have the personell for that right now lets just try to move the chains a little.  As long as the quarterbacks aren't a complete disaster I don't see Michigan having much troublesince they will have both Grady and Minor to run the ball this week.  I promised myself that I wouldn't be betting on Michigan this year because were transitioning but I've got them covering the spread.
