The Favre Saga
Once again as training camp approaches and teams start to get ready for the upcoming season most stories are the same with just the names being changed. Many first round picks have yet to sign with their respected teams. High profile players have been traded and are trying to acclimate themselves with new teams and surroundings. While a few players appeal suspensions to show that they are changed men whose only goal is to get back on the gridiron. However, one story remains exactly the same for yet another year. Brett Favre, arguably one of the greatest quarterback's of all time can't seem to decide what to do. For months now the reports have come out about Brett possibly playing for the Vikings. While this honestly has not been a shock to the football world it is getting a bit unbearable. If Favre does come out of retirement... again he will do so at the risk of alienating almost every fan he has ever had. Always known as a gunslinger #4 has made is mark on the game with his long bombs. He brought MVP's and a Superbowl to Green Bay making a name for himself as the iron horse of the NFL. Retiring for the second time this year he is now contemplating coming to Minnesota, a division rival of the Packers. The most interesting part of all this though coming in the shoulder surgery Favre had done only months ago. Can an aging quarterback past his prime come back from surgery into a system he's not familiar with and win? Can he even remain healthy with such an injury lurking over his shoulder, no pun intended. Now Viking players have gotten Brett's cell phone number and have reportedly been calling all week. So how will this story end? Will Brett come riding into town guns a blazing and lead Minnesota, who many experts say are a QB away from playoff contention, to the playoffs or even the Superbowl. The Viking organization sure seems to think so. With camp right around the corner the stage has been set for Favre to make yet another comeback. Will this one be more successful than the 2008 campaign with the Jets? Whatever happens though this will most likely be the last year Favre commands the football headlines. Then again just because he retires doesn't mean we'll never see him play again just look at history.
