GIANTS , EAGLES : " Best two out of three "
" It´s like Deja-Vous all over again ". Ahh, yes, who could forget that humorous, infamous quote from the legendary Yogi Berra. Well it could not be more fitting for the upcoming NFC Divisional playoff game between the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants and the , as of late , high flying Eagles. The difference being that it is now the Eagles who are playing the role of the 2007 Super Bowl Champion Giants. Lets recap the irony of this scenario. The 2007 Giants , while making things hard for themselves practically all season , started out in pretty much the same fashion but finished with a Big Blue , big time victory in horrific weather conditions and behind a 151 yard rushing performance by Ahmad Bradshaw against the Bills , winnig 38-21 and clinching the NFC´s last wild card in the second to last game of the season. They then followed that game up with a hard fought slug fest , going toe to toe with the undefeated New England Patriots coming up just short on 38-35 loss but their heart and their momentum carried them much further going into the playoffs. This season the Eagles came on strong down the stretch winning three out of four games but had to beat the Cowboys and hope for a Bears and a Bucs loss to clinch the NFC´s last wild card. They laid a pounding on the Cowboys crushing them and their own playoff hopes 44-6. Both the Bears and the Bucs loose. They move on. The 2007 sixth seed New York Giants then travelled to Tampa Bay in a first round playoff game and won on the road 24-14. This season´s sixth seed Eagles team travelled to Minnesota in the first round of the playoffs and also had a huge win beating Minnesota 26-14. Next up for the ´07 Giants were the Divisional Playoffs against the NFC East Champion Cowboys. They confidently marched into Texas Stadium riding high , like all season long , on the "team first"and "belief" concept and marched right back out with a thrilling 21-17 win. On sunday , the Eagles come to call in a Divisional Playoff game against , you guessed it , the NFC East Division Champion New York Giants. The question is will the eagles be flying out of Giants stadium riding high with victory en route to the NFC Championship game? Or will the G-Men impose their elements of nature (alias: earth , wind , and fire ) on them and clip their wings knowing that one more victory puts them back in the Big Show with a chance of repeating as Super Bowl Champions. Another intriging , comparible, twist of irony is the fact that on the way to the Giants incredible Super Bowl run , they faced the the Cowboys (east division champs vs. sixth seed wild card ) three times. Losing both regular season games before shutting them down in the Divisional Playoff game. Dare I say , the same holds true for this upcoming Divisional Playoff battle. Difference being , the two teams split in the regular season. The Giants winning 36-31 in Philly , while the Eagles won their contest 20-13 in New York. Which goes to show that when these two team meet , home-field goes out the window. One guarantie , this will be another classic Giant-Eagle , smash mouth type battle. It is one of the most heated , brutal rivalries that the NFL has to offer. Not a football fan ? Watch this game on sunday and you will be ! The weather forecast for sunday calls for snow, bone-chilling cold and gusty winds. So look for and expect a healthy dose of Earth, Wind and Fire vs. Brian Westbrook. Whoever dominates the rushing attack will more than likley win the ball game. Also , expect the unexpected. With these two teams playing each other , you don´t know if your going to get a high scoring shootout game or a low scoring defensive slug fest.If you think about it , while this game carries , "win and advance" - "loose and go home" implications , it´s sort of like a World Series game . Say... like... the Yankess vs. Phillies maybe? And of course a shortened series , " best out of three" . To sum it all up , another Yogi quote , " It´s not over ´till it´s over", couldn´t be more fitting for this classic contest.
