Season In Review

Hey Readers if you are out there,

First, I do apologize that I failed to update this through what may have been the most exciting series in Twins history and then what was almost the most improbable postseason appearance in Twins history.  If you missed it here's what happened.  The Twins were down 1 1/2 games to the White Sox going into the second to last series of the year, needing to sweep.
They did so.  Then, to make the playoffs they had to win 2 of their last 3 against Kansas City and had to have the White Sox lose 2 of 3 to Cleveland.  Well, Cleveland did their part beating the Sox 2 of 3.  However, the Twins could only muster one win against KC.  That left the Twins 1/2 a game ahead and the White Sox were then made to play a make up game against the Detroit Tigers at home.  Win and there would be a one game playoff in Chicago between the Twins and White Sox.  Lose, and the Twins were division champs.  Well, the Sox won the game forcing the playoff.  That game was tighter than tight and thanks to a Jim Thome 460 solo homer, the White Sox walked away winners 1-0 sending them to the playoffs against the Tampa Bay Rays.

So, the season for the Twins is now over after 163 games.  It was really a better season than I expected, or anyone else for that matter I think.  Hopefully, the Twins will sure up the glaring weaknesses that prevented them from locking up the division earlier and avoiding what happened that last week.  They need to sure up their bullpen, get a power hitting third baseman and just in all sure up their team defense.  Hopefully that last thing will just happen with the maturation of the team.  The other things will be reliant upon the Twins front office to take care of.  I will check in from time to time this offseason to let you know of any and all moves the Twins make in hopes they will have an even more fun 2009.

Take care.
